Success Stories: A Decade of Perseverance Pays Off
Refugee Welcome, The American Dream Calls
Claire fought for 10 years for the right to live in the states as she navigated the U.S. immigration system. She fled from danger in her home Slavic country when she was 25, leaving behind everything she knew to face years of uncertainty.
Her case was a marathon. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) Department delayed, interviewed, and ultimately referred her to immigration court. Years of hearings followed, each one feeling like starting from scratch. I supported Claire near the end of her 10-year odyssey and I secured a date for Claireâs asylum case. Despite these hurdles, we fought relentlesslyâmeticulously reviewing evidence, crafting compelling arguments, and preparing Claire to share her story with confidence and courage.
Finally, the day of her final hearing arrived. After nearly two hours of testimony, the immigration judge announced the words Claire had waited a decade to hear:
"I will grant your asylum application."
In a rare and touching moment, the judge stepped down, shook Claire's hand, and said, âWelcome to the United States.â
That moment wasnât just the end of her fightâit was a testament to the power of perseverance. Claireâs earned her new beginning in the U.S. It reminded me why I chose this work: to help people like Claire find safety, freedom, and the chance to rebuild their lives.
Success Stories: Celebrate Every Victory, Big and Small
Every success story in immigration law is unique, and its impact on a personâs life is immeasurable. Being part of these life-changing moments is indescribable.
Sometimes, success means obtaining a green card or a work visa. Other times, itâs in smaller but equally powerful moments.
Mariaâs journey sees her securing permission to travel and reunite with her family in Mexico after 18 long years. A survivor of domestic violence, she endured years of abuse before USCIS finally recognized her case. Having entered the U.S. without a valid visa, Maria faced a grueling four year wait for her U visaâs approval. Unfortunately, due to poor legal guidance, she didnât know she needed to apply for a green card before her U visa status expired. By the time she sought help, she had only two months remaining. With speedy filing and wisdom to navigate the U.S. immigration space., I helped Maria finally see her family in Mexico.
For Juan, receiving a work permit was more than just paperworkâit was a lifeline, giving him the freedom to seek employment and feel a true sense of belonging in his new home. His story is a reminder that, even while waiting for USCIS to process an asylum or family-based petition, opportunities like applying for a work permit can make a world of difference.
These stories remind us of the resilience and courage it takes to navigate the complex web of immigration law. They also show the power of skilled advocacy, and the hope even small wins can bring. Let us take a moment to celebrate these victoriesâbig and smallâand be thankful for the opportunity to create change, one life at a time.
Now, go eat turkey! đŠđđŒ
